Sometimes I sorta wish I was king jimmy only.

But, alas, I am not, nor ever have been.

My current translation is the Legacy Standard Bible. I have enjoyed it for the last several months. May stick with it, may change with the new year.

Anyway, this morning I read Psalm 119.58, “I have sought to please Your face with all my heart; be gracious to me according to Your word.”

Thinking on the first three words, I decided to check other translations, and here is what I found:

NET “I seek your favor…”

CSB “I have sought your favor…”

KJV “I intreated thy favor…”

ESV “I entreat Your favor….”

NASB “I sought your favor….”

NIV “I have sought your favor…”

NLT “With all my heart I want your blessings…”

MSG (Yeah, I recognize it is not a translation per se but I enjoy Peterson’s words) “I beg you from the bottom of my heart, smile, be gracious to me.”

I stopped there. Did not go to the original languages.

Do I understand the concept more? I don’t think so, but making the time (one never ‘finds’ the time) to do a bit of comparison allowed/forced me to think about/meditate on the words a bit more…

And that’s a good thing.
